How to get Retro Texture in Procreate

In this tutorial, we're drawing a retro effect narwhal and iceberg art print! This is a mega fun project, totally approachable for multiple experience levels - even if you're a complete beginner to drawing in Procreate!

This video gets into some nitty gritty masking techniques - from clipping masks, to alpha lock, to reference layers. If you’ve ever wondered how to layer in texture, these tips will totally help! The idea for this piece was to create a retro print effect. I’ve been super into vintage matchbook covers (it sounds random, but they’re so cool!), and so I used that aesthetic as the jumping off point.

The brushes I am using in the video are part of a mini bundle that I partnered with Design Cuts to bring to you. The bundle consists of five brush sets, ranging from vintage illustrative style brushes to retro and inky textures. Check them out:

I’m definitely planning to do more tutorials with these brushes, because this retro print aesthetic is a bit of an obsession for me right now! So stay tuned for more ways to use them :)
